Is it still OK to send flowers to a family's home during COVID-19?

Flowers are a visual expression of sympathy, grief and love.

Flowers are a visual expression of sympathy, grief and love. They are a great way to show your support to a family who is grieving the loss of a loved one.

However, during the COVID-19 outbreak, you may wonder if this is still possible and even safe.

Families who experience a loss during this time need just as much support, if not more, than they did prior to the outbreak. Sending flowers is a simple task that can mean a lot to someone who has experienced a loss.

The good news is many floral delivery companies are still operating. While their store fronts may be closed, many are able to fulfill orders online. They are also taking proper precautions to keep their employees and customers safe.

One thing to keep in mind is that things are constantly changing, so make sure to call your chosen florist and confirm all details before ordering.

What has changed?

Many delivery companies are now offering no-contact delivery or pick-up. This means that your order would be placed and paid for over the phone or online. Then, the order would be delivered and left outside or picked up outside the store to limit the exposure.

Flower choices may be limited at this time. Due to vendor issues and shortages, it will likely be more difficult to choose specific flowers. But this shouldn’t keep you from having flowers delivered. Your florist will still be able to create a beautiful arrangement with what they have available to them.

Is it safe to send and receive flowers?

According to information published on The World Health Organization’s website: "the likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled, and exposed to different conditions and temperature is also low.”

At this time, there have been no reports that suggest COVID-19 can be transmitted by packaging or through fresh products like flowers.

If you have concerns or questions, visit the website of your chosen florist or call to see what specific precautions they are taking.
