Can someone still be buried if they passed away from the COVID-19 virus?

While there are many changes and uncertainties in our lives lately, one thing that remains the same is that funeral homes will continue to hold funeral services and burials.

Yes, if someone passes away from the COVID-19 virus they can still be buried.

While there are many changes and uncertainties in our lives lately, one thing that remains the same is that funeral homes will continue to hold funeral services and burials.

Funeral homes have been dealing with infectious diseases for as long as they have been around. While the COVID-19 virus is new, there are many other infectious diseases that people pass away from. Funeral homes are very experienced in how to protect themselves, families and their communities.

Funeral employees will likely have to take new precautions, such as wearing a face mask when preparing the deceased for burial, but they are still able to do burials safely. Embalming is also still safe.

You will notice some new precautions for families, however, if you do attend a funeral or burial. Due to social distancing, the number of people allowed inside a funeral home for a service is limited by CDC guidelines and state regulations. And that number includes the funeral director and an officiant.

Funeral homes will take other precautions as well, such as not allowing anyone to touch the deceased and encouraging family members to keep a 6-foot distance apart from each other.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your funeral director.
