There are many different ways to celebrate and honor your loved ones once they have passed. One creative way to do this is to have your funeral director take the fingerprints of your loved one. Then those fingerprints can be used to make jewelry or other keepsakes. Fingerprint jewelry is a wonderful, personalized option for a keepsake. It can be a way to keep your loved one close to your heart. It also gives you the ability to be able to have a physical connection with your loved one as you can touch the ridges of your loved one’s fingerprint. With fingerprint jewelry, each piece is custom-made. Using a fingerprint kit, if possible, a fingerprint, thumbprint, or even a hand or footprint, can be taken. Usually, designers will create a digital image of the print and then create a 3-dimensional mold of the image. Once the mold is made, molten metal is poured into the mold and the metal is used to create the jewelry.  Jewelers then transpose the fingerprint onto the type of jewelry of your choice. This could be anything from a pendant to earrings or a keychain. If your loved one has already passed away, you may still be able to have fingerprint jewelry made. It’s simply a matter of tracking down their fingerprints. In many cases, funeral homes take fingerprints of those who have passed away even if you didn’t specifically request it -  so the first place to try is the funeral home. If your loved one was in the military you can check their paperwork or ask their military office as all soldiers have their fingerprints taken. You can also try looking through your loved one’s records as it’s possible they had their fingerprints taken at some point.  If you are interested in making fingerprint keepsakes of your loved one, make sure to ask your funeral director to take prints of your loved one. Your funeral director may be able to help you get your keepsake jewelry made. If they can’t there are many online services that can help you design and create your own personalized fingerprint keepsakes.
