There are many ways to remember and honor your loved one. Here are some ideas for keepsakes.

Memory boxes. Fill a box with pictures and keepsakes that remind you of your loved one. Then you can take out the box and view the items or bring it out at family gatherings.

Memory scrapbooks. Make a scrapbook filled with pictures, mementos, or stories that remind you of your loved one. You can put a book out during the family gathering for people to look through as well as write their favorite stories or jokes.

Fingerprint jewelry. To create fingerprint jewelry, the family gives permission for the funeral home to take the fingerprints of their loved one. Then, the fingerprint is stored and the family is given a secure pin number to access the prints. A fingerprint can be stored for a number of years and is only shared with the vendor. Families can order a variety of keepsakes such as ornaments, wallet clips, or jewelry such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, or earrings.

Cremation jewelry or other items. Cremation jewelry is similar, but instead of using a fingerprint, your loved one's ashes are incorporated. This is a great thing to do if you want to split up ashes among different family members. Cremated remains can also be turned into things like diamonds or paperweights.

Repurpose clothing. Your loved one’s old shirts or sweaters can be made into items such as pillows, blankets, cushions, or stuffed animals.

Plant something. Make a memorial garden or plant a tree or wildflowers in honor of your loved one.

Attend a charitable event or make a donation. Choose a cause close to your loved one’s heart. Then either attend an event or make a donation in your loved one’s name on the anniversary of their birth or death.

Create a playlist. Choose your loved one’s favorite songs and make a playlist that can be shared between family members. You can play it at family gatherings or whenever you choose.

Recipe box. Make a box of your loved one’s favorite recipes. Then, you can choose a recipe to make whenever you choose, or on special occasions such as for a family gathering.

Keepsake urns. If your loved one is cremated, you can split their ashes among family members by choosing several smaller keepsake urns.

Remember that there is no right or wrong way to honor and remember your loved one. Simply choose a way that works for you.
